#BuyBlack Friday And Ways To Support Black-Owned Businesses
Kicking Off #BuyBlack Friday With a Gift Guide, Live Show and Stories of Black Entrepreneurs
Facebook BusinessBlack-owned businesses have been hit especially hard during the pandemic — and we want to help. For example, we launched a new site for Facebook Elevate, and as part of our Season of Support, we also announced that we would be celebrating something new — #BuyBlack Friday — every Friday in November. To keep with our ongoing commitment to support and uplift voices of the Black community, we’ll be buying from Black-owned businesses. We invite you to join us and encourage your communities to do the same. Learn more about how we’re celebrating #BuyBlack Friday below.
Debuting The Facebook #BuyBlack Friday Gift Guide
To help you #BuyBlack this holiday season, we created The Facebook #BuyBlack Friday Gift Guide, featuring products from Black-owned businesses from across the US like Tiny Tassel, a South Carolina-based jewelry, clothing and accessories business, Diarrablu, a California-based clothing company and Brooklyn Tea, a New York-based tea shop. We curated this guide with the help of the US Black Chambers and other leading voices in the Black community, and feature gifts across categories ranging from beauty to home to fashion.
Take your participation one step further and join our #BuyBlackChallenge. Starting today we’re encouraging people to tag their favorite Black-owned business and use the #BuyBlackChallenge hashtag. Using the hashtag will add a #BuyBlackChallenge footer to any post, which encourages others who see it to join in too.
Participants can also connect with the #BuyBlack Friday movement through our partners – US Black Chambers, Etsy, DoorDash and Refinery29’s Unbothered, Bacardi RUM, Buxom, ForwardPMX, Kepler, MuteSix, BeautyStat, Uniworld, Shopify, Vimeo, StitcherAds and more.
Premiering The #BuyBlack Friday Live Show
We’re also premiering The #BuyBlack Friday Show, a live event that will take place during our Season of Support every Friday at 11AM PT through Nov. 27. You can tune in to watch it every week on our Lift Black Voices Page. It will spotlight Black businesses, celebrate Black culture and inspire consumers to #BuyBlack. Each episode, hosted by comedian Phoebe Robinson, will feature a different theme ranging from game changers to the Black diaspora. Episode one, Black Girl Magic, kicks off with an all-female roster of owners, artists and creators, including writer and activist Janet Mock, writer and editor Elaine Welteroth, and musical guest Tayla Parx.
Sharing Stories of Black Entrepreneurs
We’ll continue to share the stories of Black entrepreneurs and their businesses, highlighting a new small business for every #BuyBlack Friday. Up first is Redoux NYC — the brainchild of Asia Grant and Alejandro Cuevas, two friends who turned their passion project into a skincare brand. The handmade, vegan products are designed to elevate personal rituals and reimagine the role scent plays in our lives.
“An interesting challenge that we faced was overcoming the narrative that because we’re a Black-owned brand, the products are only for Black people,” says Asia. “I see it as an advantage — we’re able to provide a more thoughtfully inclusive brand experience, since we know what’s important to a Black consumer.”
With empathy and inclusivity at the heart of the company, Redoux NYC is making sure their customers are valued and heard. “The way we see it, togetherness is allyship in practice,” says Asia.
