How to Inspire Your Community to Register and Vote

Facebook Business

Facebook and Instagram are built to empower people by giving them a voice — and voting is one of the most powerful ways to make your voice heard. So for the 2020 US election, we launched the largest voting information effort in US history with a goal of helping four million people register to vote. We invite you to join us.

As a small business, you can help more people learn about registering to vote and casting their ballots, especially around these key dates:

  • September 22: National Voter Registration Day
  • October 24: Vote Early Day
  • November 3: Election Day

How to Take Action

Here are a few things you can do on Facebook and Instagram through Election Day:

  • Remember that no civic action is too small. You can use our voter empowerment toolkit to help you understand how to connect with your community leading up to Election Day. We also offer three Blueprint Courses to help you get started with your civic engagement efforts: Introduction to Civic Engagement, Create Socially Impactful Content and Maximize Your Reach with Facebook Ads.
  • Inspire your community. Get people inspired to register and vote by leveraging customizable social assets on Facebook and Instagram.
  • Help your supporters access voting information specific to their state. Share our “Register to Vote” module in a custom Facebook post by pasting the URL, facebook.com/reg2vote and pressing enter. The “Register to Vote” button will populate your state, directing you to your state election authority website or a non-partisan partner in states without online registration. You can also visit and share the Voting Information Center on Facebook and Instagram. The Voting Information Center gives people access to up-to-date information about voting along with tools they need to register and vote, wherever they live.
  • Encourage engagement. Encourage your community to register to vote by commenting on your post or engaging with others. When you engage in the comments section on your own posts, those posts may show up in your supporters’ feeds, increasing reach and engagement. When you comment on another Page’s public post, your comment will be visible in the comments section. The post may also appear in your supporters’ feeds, creating an additional touchpoint for people to access accurate, up-to-date information.
  • Have fun. Get creative with “Register to Vote” stickers in your Facebook and Instagram Stories.
